BCT riders can expect smooth transition

Boone County Transportation recently announced transportation services in Boone County will transition to the state-designated regional public transit system, Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA), who will begin providing direct transportation services on July 1, 2017.

BCT was the contracted provider for HIRTA in Boone County for many years. On June 30 of this year, their contract with HIRTA expires.

The transit service provides general public transportation to schools, medical and dental facilities, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, congregate meal sites, day care centers, and places of employment throughout the county.

BCT Executive Director Jeffrey Kehoe said in a recent online statement that BCT will work closely with HIRTA to assist in making the transition as smooth as possible, with little or no interruption in services. Kehoe expects about a six-week transition and says they are diligently working to get all the records in order. Continuity with the standing orders (made up predominately of students, elderly, and individuals from the Genesis program) is a priority.
