Big name candidates make local campaign stops on the way to the Democratic nomination

As the Democratic Primary race heats up, Central Iowa saw two high profile candidates this past week as Elizabeth Warren and former Vice President Joe Biden both made campaign stops in Jefferson and Boone, respectively.

Warren made her stop on Aug. 8 at RVP 1875, a historical furniture shop and museum located just outside of the downtown Jefferson square. Running on a broad platform of Medicare for all, affordable housing, and general government reform, the former teacher and current Massachusetts Senator has picked up quite a bit of steam along the way. Before her appearance, Warren unveiled a plan to help build a new farm economy while investing in rural Iowa.

Her run is far from unparalleled however, considering the wide swath of democrats who are vying for next year’s nomination. Currently, there are 24 candidates in the pool.

Joe Biden visited the Boone County Fairgrounds on Aug. 9, drawing a crowd of all ages to talk about his own views on access to affordable healthcare, education, and in what ways he feels he can take on and beat President Donald Trump.
