Boone County fundraising for another Freedom Flight - 100% of all proceeds go towards the Flight

Veterans from Boone County may have another opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. and see the various war memorials.

The Boone County Freedom Flight Committee is working hard to raise money for another freedom flight.

The committee is having a chili/soup supper kick-off fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 28 in the basement of the Boone County Historical Society, 602 Story Street, Boone, starting at 5 p.m. The supper is free will donation. Several veterans will be speaking during the event, sharing their war stories, as well as their experience on other freedom flights.

They are hoping to have a flight later this fall. According to Whitney Sager, Freedom Flight Committee volunteer, approximately $95,000 is needed to send a group of Boone County vets to the nation’s capitol. Approximately $6,000 has been raised thus far.

They are currently accepting applications from all veterans but will be giving priority to older ones (WWII, Korea, then Vietnam).

The Freedom Flight Committee meets on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Calmer & Company (formerly known as the Tic Toc Italian Steakhouse) 716 Keeler Street, Boone. Note: They will not meet Feb. 24.

Any Boone County resident interested in joining the committee is asked to “Like” the Boone County Freedom Flight page on Facebook to keep up with the latest information and events.

Those wishing to donate may do so by sending a check addressed to “Boone County Veterans Freedom Flight”, P.O. Box 311, Boone, Iowa 50036. Donations are tax deductible and 100% of all proceeds will go towards the Freedom Flight.
