Boys are Sectional runners-up

Just four strokes separated second, third and fourth place teams at the boys conference golf meet in Panora Wednesday, May 2. Des Moines Christian was crowned conference champs at 321 strokes. Van Meter was second at 363, and Panorama third, at 365. The Bulldogs, led by second team all-conference player Jacob Hildreth, placed fourth with a score of 367. Hildreth shot an 89.

Ogden’s Ryan Nichols tied for the 11th spot at 90 strokes. Preston Gronseth finished the day at 93 strokes for 14th place. Jade Thompson finished in the top half of golfers, carding 95. Jacob Kathman stroked 99 and Seth Bishop, 101.

Medalist honors went to DMC’s Drew Shisler who shot 73. A pair of Lion teammates tied for second at 80 strokes. 

Sectionals May 11 at Carroll

The Bulldogs placed second out of the eight teams at Sectionals Friday, May 11 and are advancing as a team to Districts this Thursday, May 17.

“It has always been a team effort for us, but today we proved that fact even more so by taking our fifth and sixth golfers’ scores,” said Coach Doug Stoakes. “Preston Gronseth, our sixth man, earned a team best 87 and led us to a runner-up spot behind a very good Kuemper Catholic team.” Gronseth’s score put him in the top 10 of individual scoring at number nine. Kuemper Catholic had the number 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 golfers and was led by Cole Collison with a low score of 74.

Jacob Hildreth was three strokes behind Gronseth, at 90. Ryan Nichols and Seth Bishop tied at 93 strokes. Jade Thompson carded 97 and Jacob Kathman, 99.

Unity Christian High School will be hosting the district meet at Landsmer Golf Course in Orange City. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
