Boys win at Madrid; Bulldogs bring home five individual medals

Although the Madrid Invitational is the smallest meet on Ogden’s schedule, last Thursday night’s races at Grant Woods Park west of Madrid were packed with great competition. The boys team race included several ranked teams with strong chances to qualify for state, and several returning All-State runners competed in the boys and girls races.

The high school boys showed strong improvement from a week ago and pulled out a narrow victory, just two points ahead of Madrid. Third and fourth place were close behind as well. Ogden’s 52 points put them ahead of three ranked teams, as well as three teams who won meets last week. Each of those teams are members of what will be a v1ery competitive West Central conference.

“After two races our scoring pack is starting to take shape,” says Coach Ryan Kobliska. “Gershom Levi led us with a strong 6th place finish. Jacob Hinman, Garrett Buxton and Blake Gregory held their ground throughout the race and were within 30 seconds of Gershom. Freshman Stephen Flynn continues to finish closer to that top group, running 19:45 tonight. His improvement will go a long way toward lifting the potential for this team.”
