Bulldog Andrew Stumbo wins at Guthrie Center, boys place third, girls come in sixth

The cross country meet last Thursday at Guthrie Center presented the Bulldogs with a lot of firsts. It was the first 5K race for the girls, the first year for this new meet, and with a freshman class that makes up half of the team, it was the first high school race for the majority of Ogden’s runners.

“All Iowa high school girls’ races will be 5K this year, after being 4K in the past,” explained Coach Ryan Kobliska. “I was encouraged that rather than be intimidated by the longer distance, our girls were excited for the new challenge.”

Hannah Booth adapted well to the longer race and led the team with a 10th place finish. Camryn Buxton also finished in the top third of the field with a time of 25:57. Sam Andersen was Ogden’s top newcomer in a time of 27:01.

“It’s been almost two years since the girls team had enough runners to qualify for team scoring, since we were short of the minimum five runners last season,” said Kobliska. “We were excited to place 6th, and we’re ready to get to work to keep improving.”
