Bulldogs battle of conference cross country meet

A fourth place finish at the highly-competitive West Central Conference Meet was posted by the Ogden boys’ cross country team here Thursday.

The No. 15 in Class 1A Bulldogs scored 109 points in the 11-team field. Des Moines Christian, second-ranked in 2A, captured the team crown in a close call over No. 3 in 1A Madrid, 45 points to 49 with third No. 1 in 1A Earlham at 72 points.

“The boys team race was as competitive as it’s ever been with three teams expected to compete for state championships in two weeks,” said Ogden coach Ryan Kobliska.

“We thought our guys ran fairly well to take fourth, 37 points behind the No. 1 ranked team in our class (Earlham). Our regular fourth and fifth guys had a bit of an off night, so it was great to see Parker and Payton step up with personal records on a difficult course to keep us competitive,” Kobliska added.
