Bulldogs claim first-round regional win

A straight set 25-15, 25-15, 26-24 victory opened post-season play for the Ogden volleyball team here Tuesday.

The Bulldogs swept Madrid in the Class 2A, Region 4 first-round match and improved to 13-13 in the win-loss column.

A balanced attack and the serving of Shaylie Johannsen lifted Ogden. The host’s collected 26 kills with eight each for Denali Loecker and Gabby Ross along with seven for Margo Christensen. Loecker was 15-of-17 hitting, Ross 20-of-25 and Christensen 22-of-26.

Johannsen shined at the serving stripe, collecting seven of the winner’s nine service aces and going 25-of-26. The junior also lofted 15 assists. Ross and Christensen added one service ace each.

Christensen led the defensive numbers with seven digs and two blocks. Loecker had six digs with four for Johannsen, Jenna Palmer and Kayla Pfiffner.

The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers earlier this fall in four games during conference play. Madrid ended the season 4-17.
