Bulldogs shut down the Tigers in a big win

The Bulldogs exploded for 34 fourth quarter points and ran away from the Madrid Tigers 62-27 in their regular season finale last Friday night. 

Sam Christensen (219) and Charlie Lake (102) combined for a total of 414 rushing yards. 

Ogden started the game taking the opening kickoff at their own 26 yard line. The Bulldogs moved down the field with a steady dose of Lake running the ball. The drive ended with Lake soaring across the goal line on a 2 yard run.

Kolbe Sundell added the extra point for a 7-0 Bulldog lead. The Tigers responded on one play as they raced 64 yards for a touchdown to pull within a point at 7-6. Ogden extended its lead when Christensen ran 41 yards for a score to extend the lead 14-6 after Sundell added the extra point. 

The Bulldogs weren’t done in the first. Christensen found Griffin Diggs on a 49 yard scoring pass. A made extra point put Ogden up 21-6. Madrid wouldn’t go away as they put a drive together and Russell Christensen went over from the two yard line then tacked on 2 extra points, drawing within a touchdown to end the quarter. 

The second quarter was hard fought. Madrid put together a drive and moved inside Bulldog territory. Ogden defense seemed to have stiffened, but on fourth down Wicker found Loew on a 36 yard pass play and tied the game at 21-21, a score the teams would take into halftime. 

The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove inside the Bulldog 20 taking 7 minutes off the clock and seemed poised to take the lead. But Bulldog defense held and Ogden took over possession at the 18 yard line. The Bulldogs drove 82 yards. 

With 42 seconds left Christensen capped off the drive with a seven-yard touchdown run. Ogden went back on top 28-21.

The fourth quarter started as Bulldog defense stepped up and forced a Tiger punt. 

Ogden scored when Christensen raced 42 yards for a touchdown. Sundell’s extra point was no good, putting the score at 34-21. Bulldog defense wreaked havoc and forced Madrid’s Wicker into a bad flip. Diggs recovered it in the  endzone for a score and Sundell added the extra point. Ogden led 41-21. After sacks by Sundell and Kathman. Lake scored from 26 yards out for a 48-21 lead. Kathman added to the score with a 51 yard TD. Ogden tallied once more before the clock ran out.

Ogden was led by Christensen with 219 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, and threw for one score. Lake ran for 102 yards and two scores. Kathman ran for 52 yards, one for a score, and on the other side of the ball, recorded 19 tackles. Diggs had 75 receiving yards and one touchdown and also recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Sundell added 8 tackles and 8 extra points. 

Ogden finished the season at 5-4 overall.
