Bulldogs trounce MNWW

Ogden coach Jacob Burger led his troops to Manson and came out with a 40-18 win over the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars last Friday to open the season. The Bulldogs rushed for 238 yards and added 286 passing yards for a total of 524. Sam Christensen led the attack with 168 rushing yards and threw for 286 more. Lucas Elsner was on the receiving end for 239 yards, setting a school record for receiving yards in a game.

“Really great a game for the kids and the community,” said the Bulldog coach. “The kids’ hard work in the offseason really paid off. I thought we had a great crowd that showed up and were vocal with support of the team which was awesome! It was great to see them all travel so far to watch us.”

Ogden struck early in the first quarter as the drive ended on an 18 yard run by Christensen with Kolbe Sundell adding the extra point for a 7-0 Bulldog lead. The second quarter was highlighted with a 76 yard Christensen to Elsner pass play as the Bulldogs built a 20-0 halftime lead.

Burger took note of the stingy defense played.

“We stepped it up from the scrimmage game verse Panorama. We made a lot of plays in Manson’s back field which created difficult downs and distances for them.” The only Bulldog blemish came in the third when Ogden was called for a holding penalty in their own end zone giving the Cougars their first two points.

The Bulldogs responded on a 66 yard Christensen to Elsner connection. Christensen added a two point conversion for a 28-2 lead.

“I thought we played a more complete game than most of last year,” said Burger. “I think we still have some work to do on special teams which is common early in the season. We also need to make sure we can sustain drives and not just count on the big plays.”
