District responds to social media threat

Ogden Community School went into semi lock-down mode Friday, March 9 after school administrators were informed a student in the district had posted a statement to the Snapchat social media network, claiming they would harm others.

“While this was not a direct threat toward any  of the school buildings, staff members, or specific students in our district, we are taking this matter very seriously and are working closely with the Boone County Sheriff’s office and the Ogden Police Department on this matter,” Ogden Supt. Jon Hueser said in a release that went out to all the parents. “Our foremost responsibility is to provide a safe and secure environment for all children to learn and grow.

Hueser announced that the school was on semi lock-down, which meant all doors were locked except the main entrance. Students were able to go about their school day in an otherwise normal manner. A sheriff’s deputy or local police officer was brought in as an added layer of security and protection.

No other details were released as the case is still under investigation.
