Donald Hagge

Donald Raymond Hagge was born on November 14, 1938, to the late Raymond A. Hagge and Helen M Junck Hagge. He passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Des Moines.
Visitation for Don will be from 9 am until 10:30 am on Saturday, April 26th at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church at 5615 SW 14th St in Des Moines. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 at the church, burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery in Des Moines.
He was the oldest of five siblings. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden Iowa. Don grew up on his family farm in Ogden. He attended Ogden High School. There he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Rinker. He graduated from OHS in 1956. He went on to attend Iowa State University. While attending college, he worked for Meredith Publishing Corporation in Des Moines, starting as a forklift mechanic. He graduated from ISU in 1960 with three engineering degrees. That same year, he married Barb. He worked at Meredith for over 35 years.
When he retired, he was employed as the Facility Engineer. In the years before he retired, he built a 42 foot sailboat in his backyard. Don and Barb traveled extensively around the country and the globe. He took thousands of pictures throughout their travels. They retired to Florida and lived on their sailboat.
He was active in his church where he loved to sing in the choir. He served in multiple positions and was always available to build something or repair anything in the church. He loved to help his friends and family with home DIY projects.
He and Barb celebrated 56 years of marriage before she passed away in 2016. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Barb. Surviving are his two sons. Tim (Debra) and Jeff (Beverly) both of Des Moines; three brothers, Larry of Omaha, Nebraska, Bob of Thornton, Colorado, and Dale (Kathie) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and one sister, Dixie Wyatt, of Columbia, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his life of family, faith, helpfulness, and sailing.
