Girls are 9-3 in conference play; postseason begins July 8

 DMC 9 - OGDEN 3

Des Moines Christian exploded for 5 second-inning runs as the Bulldogs suffered a 9-3 loss Monday, June 22.

“The effort was there,” said Coach Mike Moses. “We just couldn’t string together many hits. Our hits were scattered. They had some big hits at the right time and we couldn’t overcome it.”

DMC’s Bakke and Larson delivered the big blows as they homered in the five run uprising.

Ogden was led by Liz Good, Bailey  Carson, and Ellee Laws with doubles.

Ogden 5 - Earlham 4

Hopkins’s single drove in Bailey Carson with a walk off 5-4 win over Earlham in eight innings at home last Tuesday.

“Neither team could put anything together offensively,” said Coach Moses. “We just kept battling. We always seemed to answer them. I’m proud of how the kids never got down and kept fighting.”

Back-to-back singles by Cardinals Bean and Weber, and a sacrifice by Holty, gave Earlham a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom half of the inning with two outs. Kami Wheelock doubled to left and scored on a single by Good.

Ogden took a 2-1 lead in the home half of the sixth when Good reached base on error by the Earlham third baseman and scored on a double by Laws. Back-to-back singles by Eckardt and Bean in Earlham’s seventh half set the stage as an error by Ogden’s left fielder allowed Eckerd to score to even the score at 2-2. Earlham took the lead when Webber singled and scored Bean.

Ogden fought back as Abbey Gustafson led the inning off with a single. Wisecup, running for Gustafson, advanced to third on a bunt and groundout. Wheelock singled to score Wisecup and tie the game at 3-3. Singles by Arnberg and Eckard gave Earlham a 4-3 lead, setting the stage for the walk-off win.

Ogden was led by two apiece by Wheelock, Good and Gustafson.
