Golfers Walker and Wheelock advance

Ogden’s Maranda Wheelock finished the 18 holes in 95 strokes Monday, May 14 for medalist at the Sectional Golf Tournament at Lake Panorama National Golf Course near Panora. Teammate Kayla Walker shot 104 and tied for eighth place. Both girls moved on to Regional finals at I-80, Menlo. Meet runner-up was CeCe Sturdivant of Des Moines Christian who carded 96.

“The field all struggled with the back nine, but that is where Maranda made a charge for first,” said Coach Doug Stoakes. “I told each girl at the start of the day that half the game is making the final putt on the 18th green. They figured it out as play went on, what that really meant.”

The Bulldog girls team finished fourth in the field of eight, scoring 437. South Hamilton was Regional champion at 408 strokes, and will advance, along with Roland-Story (416).

Other Ogden scores included Faith Mohr at 116 strokes; Ashton Boggess, 122; and Emma Blair, 150.
