Holiday traditions

It is no secret that Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I enjoy the lights, the music, the decorating. All of it. The things I enjoy the most during this time of year, though, are the traditions. One being, the Sing-A-Long at Battin Chapel.

The little white country church down the road from my family farm has always had a special place in my heart as well as two very special men in my family, my dad and grandfather. I remember the ice cream socials, attending board meetings with my dad,  waving at the bike riders from the front steps when RAGBRAI came through town and writing a book with my LEGO team about ways to improve the efficiency of the church in 6th grade.

When we were juniors in High School, the Battin Heritage Association approached my friend Zane Satre and I about leading the Christmas Sing-A-Long that year. I guess they liked us so much, they asked us to come back the next year, and the next, and the next.
