Hundreds gather for Questers "State Day"

Alma Swanson, State Treasurer for Questers, who helped coordinate their recent annual “State Day,” describes Quester members as lifelong learners who continually strive to learn about our past by an appreciation of antiques and the preservation and restoration of historical landmarks.

“I don’t see any purpose of buying new when you can quest for something that is “re-purposable,” says Swanson. “I was introduced to Questers at a time when I felt I needed a purpose and reason to go out of the house. Belonging gives me another social circle of friends with common interests.”

Swanson admits to always being attached to family pieces, having bought her first antique on her grandmother’s auction. “I just wanted something of hers,” she explained. “Today that pink spaghetti poodle and two pups sit front and center in my Grandma Grief’s curved glass china closet.”

Ogden, Boone and Ames Chapters of the Iowa State Organization of the Questers hosted their “State Day” Saturday April 5, 2014 at Seven Oaks Recreation east of Ogden. This is a time when members of all chapters throughout the state gather to present the budget and the current state of the organization. Iowa’s Quester membership is nearly 2,000 members strong, broken out into 135 chapters.
