Hwy. 169 is getting a long-overdue facelift

Resurfacing of Hwy. 169 south of Ogden from Hwy. 30 to Hwy. 141 has been scheduled for this summer. The Iowa Department of Transportation announced that bid letting on that project will occur in May.

Construction workers recently filled potholes that developed this spring, but that is just a temporary fix. The entire road surface has been showing signs of deterioration and drivers have been wondering when it would get resurfaced. They now have an answer.

“It is typically around 30 days after bid letting that the contract is signed,” said Scott Surh, field offices coordinator at the IDOT District 4 office. “The contractor will then set a start date.” According to Surh, the 13.37 miles will be getting a PCC (Portland Cement Concrete) overlay. This stretch of highway was last resurfaced over 20 years ago with Asphalt Cement Concrete.

Jefferson Construction Residency is administering the project. Iowa DOT engineer Jenny Hoskins, who works out of the Jefferson office, said there will be a detour as the plan is to close the road entirely.
