Local barber retires after 50 years

Cal Hennick has spent the past 44 years snipping hair from his little shop on mainstreet, and after 50 years in the barbering business is stepping away from the barber chair and will officially be retired April 1.

Hennick followed in his grandfather’s footsteps making barbering his career. After graduating from the Iowa Barber College in Des Moines, Hennick spent three years in Nevada and another three in Huxley before buying the Ogden business owned by Dick Harris. When Don Slock, another barber in the community, retired, Hennick moved into his building at 237 W Walnut, where Cal’s Barber Shop has operated since.

His customers ranged in age from nine months to over 100 years old.
