Mary LaVonne Patterson
January 2, 1925 – August 21, 2021

After a full and joyous life, Mary LaVonne (Clarke) Patterson peacefully went home to our Lord Jesus Christ on August 21, 2021. Mary, born in Iowa, was a gentle Christian spirit who used her talents to help others. Mary met the love of her life, Dean Patterson, at college. Their love endured WWII and marriage blessed them with three children.

Mary, a caregiver, helped raise her younger sisters and cared for her elderly parents and in-laws. She founded the first Ogden, Iowa, blood drive, provided chapel and music at local nursing homes, and extended friendship and support to others. As a child, Mary made dresses for her kittens and she continued sewing into her early nineties. Sewing brought great joy to Mary and all she lovingly sewed gifts for. Mary was an accomplished homemaker, organist, gardener, ballroom dancer, and enjoyed bird watching.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Dean; parents, Audrey and Robert; and brother, Dean.

She is survived by her sisters, Helen and Joyce; children: Susan (Craig); Andrew (Candi) and Leah (Dick); grandchildren: Joel (Amanda); Calie (Wade) and Alec; and great-grandsons, Noah, Jonathan, and Jonah.

A member of Shades Mountain Independent Church, Mary’s faith was an inspiration. Mary was dearly loved and she enriched the lives of her family and all who knew her. Mary’s family is thankful for the loving care provided by the staff at Morningside of Vestavia Hills, Amada Senior Care, and Fair Haven.

Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
