Meet the 2016 Boone County Fair Marshals

After 20 years of serving their warm treats to Boone County Fair goers, Ray and Dorothy Kruse made a tough, emotional decision. Their funnel cake trailer would not be parked at the fair this year. It was just getting to be too much work for the Ogden couple. “You get to be 85, you ought to be smart enough to quit,” said Ray.

Both he and his wife had spent the past 35 years pedaling their specialty all around central Iowa. They’ll miss all the 4-H’ers, many they have watched grow up. “Sometimes they stopped by and didn’t have any money. I would give them a little job to earn a funnel cake,” told Ray.

In recognition for their service over the years, the Kruses have been chosen as 2016 Boone County Fair parade marshals. “Sit back and relax, Ray and Dorothy. You have earned it.”
