Meeting held in Ogden concerning Community Wellness Center

Fifteen people attended a meeting in Ogden on Dec. 10 to discuss the possibility of a Boone Community Wellness Center. The Wellness Center would be built on land donated by the City of Boone, and would potentially serve the entire county.

“There’s a lot of interest in continuing down the process and seeing what will come of it,” said Ogden councilman Brian Reimers. “People are really interested in it being a county facility, not just a Boone city facility.”

The goal is for the facility to be built as economically and efficiently as possible, under a $8 million budget, so there will be funding remaining for a head-start on operational expenses.

Plans are for the center to be about 41,000 square feet.

“The committees are working hard on getting the design done and working on a business plan,” said Boone councilman Terry Moorman. “Right after the holidays we plan to have a feasibility study with Iowa State on board to help formulate a business plan.”

A bond proposal is slated for September 2020, with the bond for the facility on the ballot in the November 2020 election.
