Ogden schools seeking adult volunteer mentors

Ogden Elementary and Middle Schools are seeking adults as volunteer mentors for 2019.

F e l e e c a Wa t k i n s , YSS mento r ing program manager, said that 11 Ogden students are on a waiting list to get a mentor.

“It’s not hard to be a mentor,” she said. “You just hang out with a student and talk.” The program takes place during lunch periods and recesses.

Students are matched with a mentor based on referrals from school counselors, teachers and other faculty, even parents. “We have a [known] presence in the schools,” said Tracy Grail, YSS Mentoring Program Facilitator for Boone and Ogden.
