"Ogdenville" saved from the Grinch's grasp

Henry Ford once said, “coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is a success.” This quote tells a lot about the community of Ogden coming together to help make another Ogden Small Town Christmas, “A Very Merry Grinchmas,” a success.

Mother Nature held out this year with above average temps for this time of year for families to come out and enjoy the celebration and activities.

The evening started out at the city Christmas tree under the water tower next to the Lucky Pig for the tree lighting, followed by Christmas caroling led by the Ogden High School choir. Following the tree lighting and caroling was the lighted parade. This year, besides the Ogden Police, Fire, and EMS department and Boone County Sheriff’s department, entries included VisionBank, Walnut Street Health and Wellness, Black Hills Energy, Ogden Community Schools, and R&W Red Power of Boone. Santa was escorted into town on a wagon pulled by Belgian horses, belonging to Karl Haglund and Denny Good.

After the conclusion of the parade, attendees were able to walk down main street to shop at the local shops and stop into Auto Electric and Tune-up for a new event this year, the chili cook-off. There were six entries. Over 150 people sampled the different chilies. Cal Hennick and Mike Elsberry served as judges. First place was awarded to Ed Dobelis, who received a plaque and a new crock pot. Second place was awarded to LeAnn Samuelson, who received a plaque and a $25 gift card to Casey’s. Third place was awarded to Mike and Jill Ahrens, who received a plaque and a $15 gift card to Subway.
