OHS students Emma Blair and Lily Hammer attend Iowa Youth Institute

Two Ogden high school girls were able to attend the World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute at Iowa State University last month. Emma Blair and Lily Hammer became interested in the event after their science teacher, Mr. Fuller, announced the opportunity to attend last fall. The girls were two of 304 students in attendance from 130 high schools across Iowa.

The innovative experience encourages students to explore academic career paths in fields related to STEM, agriculture, and global development and aims to inspire the next generation of leaders through authentic research presentations and networking opportunities with global experts.

“We had to write papers focusing on a certain country and the specific problems they faced, and talk about possible solutions,” Blair and Hammer both explained. >p> In order to gather the necessary research they needed for their papers, they each started working on their submissions in early December 2018.
