OMS students compete in Science Bowl

Middle school students from across Iowa gathered in Ames Saturday, Feb. 24 and competed in the 2018 Ames Laboratory/Iowa State University Regional Middle School Science Bowl.

The Ogden Middle School team had a strong finish and was just three seconds and four points shy of moving on to compete as one of the top eight teams.

Twenty-four teams of students answered questions about biology, chemistry, earth and space science, energy, mathematics, and physics in the day-long, quiz-bowl format competition.

The event started at 8:00 a.m. with opening ceremonies. Practice rounds were held in the morning along with qualifying rounds for the 12-team, double-elimination championship competition in the afternoon. The championship match was held at 4:00 p.m. in Hoover Hall Auditorium.

The winning team earned the right to represent Iowa at the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl® (NSB).  Teams from across the nation will be competing in the NSB finals April 26-30 in Washington, DC.
