Postage rate roll-back

When was the last time you heard a federal government agency admit  they were charging too much?

In an historic turn of events, the United States Postal Service reduced mail rates an average of 4.3% (almost 2¢ per stamp) this past April. The postage rate rollback impacts mostly letters, postcards and large envelopes.

According to the USPS, the rate change reverses the January 2014 emergency (or “exigent”) increase of 4.3% (average). The Postal Regulatory Commission allowed the USPS to raise rates based on financial hardships suffered from the Great Recession of 2008-09. The increase was temporary - limited by a cap of about $4.6 billion in extra revenue.
