Quilt pieced in Ogden, presented in Nebraska

Earl Lyons was awarded a Quilt of Valor Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 for his military service. See story for full identification.

Last June, during Ogden Fun Days, the Ogden Piecemakers recognized thirteen veterans by presenting special handmade quilts as a thank you for their service. Ogden Piecemakers are members of the national Quilt of Valor Foundation whose goal is to “cover service members and veterans touched by war with comfort and healing.”

But Earl Lyons of Ogden was not among them. Lyons was on schedule to receive his “Quilt of Valor” this coming summer. Through the coordination of two separate auxiliaries, Lyons would be sharing the special moment with family members six months ahead of schedule.

Lyons’s daughter Lisa Milke,  who lives in the Beatrice, Neb. area in close proximity to her three siblings, reached out to the American Legion Auxiliary in Ogden and arranged details for a ceremony as a surprise when he visited Beatrice for Christmas.
