Record turnout at Iowa caucuses

West Boone County Democrats were spread across multiple caucus sites Monday, Feb. 1.

Mary Weaver of Rippey hosted approximately 100 in her home, one of only five caucuses in Iowa held in a private residence.

The Ogden High School location drew 102 participants. Close to the same number showed up at the Leonard A. Good Community Library (Rural Precinct 4). Rural Precinct 3 in the Pilot Mound area  estimated 50 to 60 in attendance.

Ogden Precinct captain Dan Friedrichs reported that crowd size was close, but not quite equal to the numbers in attendance for the 2008 caucus that led to the nomination and eventual election of Barack Obama to the presidency.

One precinct had Bernie Sanders winning 5-3. Hillary Clinton claimed two of the three delegates at another location. Caucuses were tight all across the state and at days end Sanders and Clinton still split at 50%. Clinton was eventually announced the winner.
