Several Ogden wrestlers place at Manson Invite

The Ogden wrestlers started their season at Van Meter in a triangular meet going up against Greene County and Van Meter Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Van Meter.

The team scores did not favor Ogden as Ogden lost to Van Meter by a score of 18 to 63, and a closer loss to Greene County with a score of 41 to 24. Even with the team results, several wrestlers had a good night. Sophomores Blake Haub and Wyatt Schellenberg won both of their matches by pinning their opponents.

Coach Jesse Sundell was pleased after the meet saying, “Going back and watching film, we are seeing stuff that we’ve been working in the room, kids are starting to use it on the mats. The main thing is for them to keep buying into our process.”

Saturday marked the first wrestling tournament for the Ogden Bulldogs and the team wrestled very well. In the Manson Invitational, the Bulldogs had three wrestlers in 3rd place matches and also had 5 wrestlers in 5th place matches. Garrett Bales had himself a very impressive day, wrestling his way into the finals.

Coach Sundell was very excited after the meet saying, “We are seeing them starting to use more of the technique in matches that we have been working on in practice. We have a couple tough duels on Tuesday at Perry and finish off the week with our home meet.”

This Saturday, wrestlers take to the mat here at 9 a.m. The dual meet includes Carroll Community, Clarke Community, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Gilbert, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, Greene County, Humboldt, Kuemper Catholic and North Butler.
