Soldier photo exhibit featured during Boxholm Memorial Day

Boxholm’s Arthur Anderson American Legion Post 63 will honor veterans at three cemeteries before photojournalist Rich Abrahamson delivers the keynote message during the annual Memorial Day program at Boxholm’s Community Club Monday, May 28 at 10:30 am.

Abrahamson’s photography exhibit, “A Soldier Says Good-bye” is on display at the club beginning May 23 through May 30. The photos, featuring Boone County veterans, won the Poppy Award for Outstanding Presentation of Military History during the inaugural YesterBoone* in 2017.

The community club is open every weekday morning and on Friday afternoon to view the exhibit. It can also be viewed in the afternoon by appointment by calling Glenn or Marva Stark at 515-846-6227.

During Memorial Day, the Boxholm legion and its firing squad, will honor veterans during ceremonies at Renner Cemetery at 9:20 am, Union Cemetery at 9:40 am and Lawn Cemetery at 10 am. A program will follow at the community club.

The program also features Carolyn Huglin of the American Legion Auxilary, the playing of Taps, a prayer and the reading of the names of each veteran buried at the three cemeteries.
