The story behind My Son the Petunia Patch

Caylin Graham and I are privileged to host a book signing for our book, My Son the Petunia Patch. It has been quite a journey to get it published and I thought it might be fun to tell that other story – the one behind the story in the book.

My Son the Petunia Patch was first written in my mind and heart in about 1985 when our four-year-old son was challenging me in a typical four-year-old way. Although he was an awesome kid in so many ways, Bubba did not like to take baths.

As his parent, and as many parents tend to do, I tried a little ‘reverse psychology.’

“If I tell him he doesn’t have to take a bath, maybe he’ll find out that being dirty is just not that much fun.”

So Mom and Son go off on a little journey - a test of wills. Who will give in first?
