"Trains Across Iowa" presentation at the Ogden library

Leonard A. Good Community Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, to host a presentation called, “Trains Across Iowa” by Rudy Daniels at 7  p.m., Monday, Feb. 15 in the library meeting room. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.

Rudolph Daniels received his PhD in Russian and Soviet Studies from Pennsylvania State University in 1971. Since then he has taught at colleges and universities in the United States and in Germany. He has written numerous articles and four books. His book, Trains Across the Continent, a complete history of the U.S. and Canadian railroads, was written at the request of the railroad industry and is considered the official account of our nation’s railroads. More recently he has published Sioux City Railroads. He is currently finishing another book, Railroads of World War One.

Daniels retired as Assistant Dean and Department Chair of Railroad Operations Technology at Western Iowa Tech Community College. Recently, Daniels helped edit the professional Railway Atlas of the United States, and as a script consultant for a recent Public TV production of “Orphan Trains.”
