Upgrades coming to Don Williams Recreation Area

While the winter months drag on, Boone County Conservation already has a case of spring fever. As the natural resources group begins the final stages of their most recent campground upgrades, they can’t help but be excited for warmer days.

“We’re really excited to be able to implement some of the changes we made to other campgrounds last year to more of our sites this year,” says Tanner Scheuermann, Executive Director of Boone County Conservation.

New campfire rings, better gravel pads and site markers, and upgraded electrical hookups are just some of the changes to be seen this year at the new and improved Don Williams Recreational Area.

The changes come after Boone County was awarded a $5,000 grant to help with the improvements. The rest of the cost will be offset by a slight increase in camp fees, up from $18 to now $20 per night. While Boone County Conservation does what they can in order to not raise fees, they felt that with these changes the increase was both fair and necessary. Fees are kept relatively consistent with other counties in the area in order to best serve the people who utilize the outdoor space.
