We can finally see the end

The Iowa Department of Transportation Resident Engineer with the Jefferson office says the current plan is to have U.S. Hwy. 169 open sometime during the first week of October. The stretch of Hwy. 169 from Ogden south to the Hwy. 141 interchange has been closed the past six weeks for resurfacing.

You may have noticed a pilot car in operation at the Hwy. 30 overpass (pictured looking southeast).

Hoskins explained that a patching contractor has been  working on the area north of where they just paved, and in a week or so, the stretch from Casey’s to the north end of the new paving, will be overlaid with asphalt

The paving was completed Monday, Sept. 17 and the contractor is now working on the rock shoulders.

Last Thursday they finished getting the rock placed on the northbound shoulder and have turned around to go south. According to Hoskins, they will also be working on getting driveways at residences and field entrances brought up to match the new shoulders.

When that is complete, rumble strips will be cut in the shoulder and centerline. Then the road will be ready to be painted and reopened.
