Where did these even come from? A short history of modern garage sales

If the United States is anything, we are a country of tradition. Barbeques, campfires, countless days fishing or camping, all of these have one thing in common: the feel of sweet, sweet summer time.

But there is an unsung hero of the warmer months, one that might even be taken for granted these days, but essentially didn’t exist 60 or so years ago: the garage sale.

Oh yes! We all love them, heading out on early weekend afternoons to sort through other people’s stuff that we may or may not need. Obviously, what you see is what you get so garage sales always have a bit of a treasure hunt feel to them, and they are a great spot for awesome deals and even a haggle or two.
