YES on school referendum

Now that voters have approved the bond referendum, Ogden Community School District will be moving forward with its planned facilities project. Funds from the bond will help finance facility changes that will enable  the district to move from three buildings to two.

In last Tuesday’s special election, over 71% voted in favor of the referendum, 390 to 155. Passage required a 60% majority. A total of 545 of the 2,725 eligible voters within the district cast ballots, a 20% turnout.

Next on the school board’s agenda will be scheduling a series of workshops at which time they’ll work on ironing out specific design details.

Superintendent Dr. Tim Hoffman thinks it may take from four to six sessions. He doesn’t look for the general design to change.

“The staff will be getting more involved now because this part of the design will impact them and we’ll need their input,” says Dr. Hoffman.

He expects work on the middle school addition to begin early this winter or in the spring.

“Timing will hinge a lot on how long before the school board can get settled on details so the project can get out for bidding.”

Because soil type and topography of the land can affect engineering of the foundation,  soil samples will be taken and a topographical map drawn up at the site of the middle school addition before construction can begin.
