Welcomed guest was David Weaver, a Boone County farmer and official Boone County representative to the Beaver Creek Watershed Management Authority (WMA). Weaver praised the efforts of Watershed Project Coordinator, Laura James, employed since November for a three-year period through an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Farmer to Farmer Grant. They have also hired Iowa Cover Crop, a business out of the Rippey area, to assist farmers with planting and managing winter cover crops, such as rye, that stabilize phosphorus and nitrogen in the soil.

Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase on Iowa PBS

Feel the energy of hundreds of amazing student performers, representing 85 participating Iowa high schools, as they share highlights from their award-winning school musicals during the 2022 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase. Iowa PBS is proud to present an exclusive live stream of the full event on iowapbs.org, Facebook and YouTube on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. A 90-minute highlights special will air Monday, July 18 at 8 p.m.

Grassley, Cantwell Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Combat Rising Prescription Drug Prices and Provide More Transparency

Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), chair of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, have introduced legislation that would empower the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to increase drug pricing transparency and hold pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) accountable for unfair and deceptive practices that drive up the costs of prescription drugs at the expense of consumers.

Iowa Arboretum & Gardens to host first ever summer concert series

The Iowa Arboretum & Gardens is hosting its first-ever Summer Concert Series that will take place on the second Tuesday of each month, June through September, from 6-8 pm at the Beckwith Grand Pavilion. Tickets can be purchased at each event, free for members (kids 12 and under free) and $5 for non-members. Food trucks will be on-site and drinks (including beer and wine) will be available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair and blanket and join us in the trees!

Ogden students graduate/get masters from Northwestern College

Jonah Tews of Ogden was among 221 graduates to receive bachelor’s degrees at Northwestern College during commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 14. Twenty-seven students received Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees, while the rest of the graduating seniors were granted Bachelor of Arts degrees.

Tews graduated with a major in exercise science.

Chelsea Cook and Rachel Onken were among 148 graduate students who were awarded a Master of Education degree from Northwestern College during commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 14.

Students, chaperones and staff reflect on OHS senior trip

The Ogden High School seniors, some staff members and chaperones took part in the 51st Stan Friesen Senior Trip. The group traveled through Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York City and had other stops along the way. These are their reflections of the trip.

Topics of interest from the Boone County Board of Supervisors April 20 meeting

Approved adopting previously tabled Resolution 22-10 Allocating American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds. By doing so, all ARPA funds are now designated as lost revenue due to the pandemic.

This designation, allowed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, administrator of ARPA, will greatly reduce paperwork requirements and more broadly allow funds usage for most all “government services”.

Leonard A. Good Community Library showcases local artists of all ages

Throughout the month of April, the Leonard A. Good Community Library has had numerous works of art throughout the building. From the display case when one enters the building to all over the walls, art has been the focal point of the month. Library director Lori Reutter attributed the art cause this month to one person.

Two OHS students participate in Battle of the Books

Earlier this month, two Ogden High School students got the chance to participate in a challenge that went statewide and pitted them against numerous other teams in what was the Battle of the Books.

The Battle of the Books is a contest for high school students across the state. Teams work together to read a list of 28 books which are compiled from the Iowa High School Book Award list, the ALA Youth Media awards and other lists.

Parades, Petals & Poffertjes Tulip Time Festival in Pella May 5, 6 & 7

Residents are excited to welcome visitors back to town for the annual Tulip Time Festival in Pella, Iowa. This year's festival is Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 5, 6 and 7, 2022.

When you visit Pella during Tulip Time you are greeted with parades, delicious food, residents in Dutch costumes, flower shows, auto displays, city tours, a Dutch craft market, shows and entertainment and of course, TULIPS!
