Allan Ray Blood, son of Robert and Velma (Tourte) Blood, was born on August 1, 1950 in Greene County, Iowa.  He grew up on the family farm near Dana along with his older brother Gary.  Allan graduated from East Greene High School in 1968.  Following graduation, Allan entered the Iowa Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.

On August 7, 1970, Allan married Alberta Lee Brower in Omaha, Nebraska.  To this union three daughters were born, Valerie, Kimberly and Tamara.  While serving in the Iowa Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, Allan, in 1970, began his career with the Iowa State Conservation Commission, Department of Natural Resources-Saylorville Wildlife Unit, stationed at Ledges State Park, Boone, Ia.  Allan was honorably discharged from the Air Guard after 6 years of service, in 1974.  In 2012, Allan retired from the DNR with over 42 years of service.

Allan’s hobbies included his passion for music which started in high school where he played the bass and drums, along with vocals with his group, the Azorbs.  He also played in several bands after high school.  He enjoyed westerns, loved to build houses and fix things, work on his children’s cars, and travel with his family.  Above all, he loved being his generous self, spending time with his girls, and his grandchildren, and being a devoted husband to Alberta, the love of his life.
