Gary Peters

Gary J. Peters, 83, of Johnston, Iowa passed away at his home in Johnston on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Gary John Peters was born at the Johnston Birthing Hospital in Ogden, Iowa, on October 9, 1941, to Walter and Annagail (Dunn) Peters. He grew up on a farm South of Ogden and attended grade-school in Beaver and graduated from Ogden High School, class of 1959.

Gary married Irie Miller on October 16, 1962, and moved to California. He graduated from California Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and later with a Master’s Degree in Business. Gary and Irie owned a small rolling steel door manufacturing company until their retirement in 2022, when they sold their business and moved back home to Iowa.

Gary is survived by his wife, Irie, his son, Danny (Donna) Peters, his daughter, Michelle (Jim) Davidson. Two grandsons, Zachary (Kate) Peters and Mitchell (Makenna) Peters. Two great-grandchildren, Maeve Peters and Matthew Peters; his sister, Mary Jo (Peters) Garvey; his brother-in-law, Vernon Miller; and his sister-in-law, Janet Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Terry Garvey, Arvid (Donna) Miller, and Ivan (Karen) Miller; sisters-in-law, Marlena Miller (John Wayne) Sparks, and Lila (Miller) Pervier-Mallicoat.

Gary had good instincts for business, he was hardworking and generous. He gave as much as he got. He will be sorely missed by the many who knew and loved him.

Gary was strong in his Christian faith and set a very good example for living, by living a Godly life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse, as they serve others in times of great need, in Jesus’ name.

A private visitation for family and close friends will be held from 1-3 P.M. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden, Iowa. Private family graveside services will be held at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
