Eugene Lass
Eugene Leroy Lass, age 94, died in his home in Greenwood Village, Colorado, on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Eugene was born October 11, 1930, to George and Henrietta (Wunderlich) Lass.
Eugene lived near Ogden, Iowa for most of his life where he grew up and later farmed. From 1951-1953, he spent two years in Germany serving in the Army during the Korean War.
In 1959, Eugene married Phyllis Lois Harmon. They had met on a blind date arranged by Eugene’s sister. It was a match made in heaven as the couple had been married for 62 years.
He was active in his church where he served on the Board of Stewards at Zion Lutheran Church for many years. Eugene was a quiet gentle man who was loved and respected by his family and community.
Eugene and Phyllis moved to Colorado in 2016 to be near their daughter. They enjoyed the Colorado weather. Eugene’s favorite pastime was walking. He was recognized in his community by many neighbors who would stop and tell him he was an inspiration. They were greeted with a genuine smile and a nod.
Eugene is survived by his three children, Mark Lass (Teri), Sherri Claycomb (Danny), Duane Lass (Karla), 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, his wife and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be scheduled for later in the spring to be held in Ogden, Iowa.
