Bulldog football gets another win, 20-0 over Wayne

Ogden was able to square their record at 2-2, and break a losing streak, in a much-needed 20-0 win over Wayne (Corydon) last Friday night. The team racked up 392 total yards on 73 plays, with 19 first downs. Kolby Moorman found some daylight in the opening quarter, and took off untouched for a 74-yard touchdown run. The Carson Van Sickle PAT made it 7-0, and that’s how it would stand at halftime.

For the first time in at least 10 years, they Ogden cross country team hosted their own meet as the inaugural Ogden Invitational was held last Tuesday at Don Williams golf & country club. It was a cool mid-60’s and cloudy day, which were great weather conditions for the teams to run in.

On Tuesday, September 1 in a home match, the visiting Panorama Panthers were not kind to their hosts in taking a victory in straight sets by scores of 25-6, 25-18 and 26-24. Team serving was at 79.5 percent proficiency, with Kayla Pfiffner at 7 of 7 and three aces. Shaylie Johannsen and Alana Burton made four kills each in the attack mode, with MaKayla Claude making a solo block. The Bulldogs started the night slow, working up to a much more competitive second set. They took their game up a notch yet again in set three, ultimately coming within four points of sending it to a fourth set.

Bulldog football drops 56-18 game to Earlham

If you go by strictly the final offensive total yards, you would think that last Friday’s game with Earlham would be much tighter than the final score would indicate. You might also be led to believe it might even have resulted in the Bulldogs squeaking out a win. Not so, as a high octane Cardinals offense was too much to overcome in a 56-18 loss. To their credit, the ‘Dogs did rack up over 300 yards of total offense. It was still simply not near enough, as the Earlham ground game chewed up just over 400 yards on their own.

Bulldog football team loses to W-Granger

(Editor’s note-Due to last week’s early deadline, this game could not be included until now). On Friday, September 4, the Ogden Bulldogs took a tough loss 42-14 to Woodward-Granger. They managed two touchdowns, both through the air by Kolby Moorman. Passes to Jack Christensen and Tyler Tolan resulted in those two scores, which were coupled with PAT’s?

There is a saying within sports circles that you always want to go out on top. It’s every player’s aspiration and every coach’s dream to end their career – whether it’s high school, college or professional realms – with a championship.

Ogden head softball coach Mike Moses achieved just that, guiding the Bulldogs to the school’s first team state championship.

Even though they went into the 2020 season needing to do some rebuilding, veteran head coach Dick Smith’s ‘Boys of Summer’ ended up with a pretty decent effort for the year. The tightened their belts, adjusted their caps and did what they knew they had to do for success. As the team grew together the wins came. In short, they made the best they could out of a difficult situation and that’s all we can ask of them.

Kolby Moorman is named to All-District baseball team

Bulldog baseball player Kolby Moorman admits that he was surprised to be chosen for the All-District Baseball Team for the Central region by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association.

“I was competing with a lot of other talented players,” stated Moorman. “I was extremely happy and excited when I learned I had received this award.” He led the Bulldogs in batting with a .373 average, and was tops on the team in hits and tied for the lead in runs scored. His prowess on defense led to a team-leading assist total.

Bulldog softball tournament trail starts and ends with a win

Following a season schedule that had mostly its up’s but a few down’s, the still rated Bulldogs focused on starting over by hosting a first-round Class 2A, Region 4 game versus Clarion-Goldfield-Dows from the North Central Conference. Even though the Cowgirls only had three wins on their season, they were coming into this game as an improving team. They were still no match for the Bulldogs, who had their focus on a trip to state while still taking it a game at a time.

IHSAA announces revised high school football schedule

To better prepare for the 2020 varsity football season, the Iowa High School Athletic Association has developed a revised schedule plan, which allows for member school adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Football remains the only high school sport with regular season schedules and postseason qualifying managed by the IHSAA. The revised plan considers flexibility for school return concerns, geography, postseason qualifying, transportation and possible COVID-19 cases as rationale for changing previously announced varsity football schedules.
