On Friday, January 15, a big day happened for Boone County. A new county attorney was sworn in as Matthew Speers took over for departing attorney Dan Kolacia, who left to continue practicing law in California.
Speers, who was born in Ames and moved to Storm Lake at the age of 4, graduated from Storm Lake in 2005 and went on to Iowa State to have a double major in psychology and political science. Following his four years in Ames, he moved on to Drake to get his law degree, and graduated in 2012.
