Swing For Freedom looking forward to third outing

Golfers will be swinging their clubs in Ogden for a good cause next week.

On Monday, June 22, Water's Edge will be hosting the third annual Swing for Freedom golf fundraiser.

Weather permitting, the two-person best shot tournament will kick off with a cannon shot on Monday morning as 108 golfers from around the Midwest gather at Honey Creek Golf Course to compete for prizes and raise money for a charitable cause.

"It's pretty awesome to see everything come together," said Pastor Rick Summerhays.

Spinning Wheels roller skating rink reopens

After closing for almost three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ogden’s Spinning Wheels roller skating rink reopened on Friday, June 5.

The rink has been a staple in Ogden since the 1960s, and although past months of closure have been difficult financially, owners Joe and Cheri Schmidt are dedicated to keeping the rink a great place for young and old alike to visit.

“A lot of people have a lot of memories there and are emotionally invested in the rink. We want to continue that legacy,” Cheri Schmidt said.

$7000 raised in memory of Dan Sesker

The 15th annual Daniel Sesker Memorial Poker Run may have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Ogden community came through to support the event nonetheless, taking a drive in Sesker’s memory and participating in t-shirt and auction fundraisers to support the Scouts Out Memorial Scholar-ship, Boone County Freedom Rock Landscaping project, the nonprofit Getting Heroes Home, and the Gage Sesker Trust Fund for Dan Sesker’s son.

Sales of t-shirts for the 15th annual Dan Sesker Memorial Poker Run have raised around $1900 so far.

Public Health Emergency extended into June as more businesses open with restrictions

More businesses were opened and regulations lifted last week as Governor Kim Reynolds extended the Public Health Emergency Declaration concerning the COVID-19 outbreak into June.

As of June 1st, outdoor performances, casinos, bowling alleys, amusement parks, skating rinks, skate parks, and outdoor playgrounds may be reopened. The proclamation also lifts the restriction on social gatherings of more than ten people.

Sheriff helps Fareway delivery groceries to food bank

While the news has been bleak of late, due to the global pandemic, there are bright spots in the community to take note of.

Since the start of the pandemic, Fareway in Boone has been putting together grocery bags to help restock the shelves at the IMPACT Community Action Partnership's food bank, which has been hit hard by the increase in need for food aid.
