Ogden competes hard at the state track meet

It was a time where the best of the best took part in the 1A state track meet this past week. The Thursday through Saturday event was held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines as the Bulldog boys and girls sent a handful of athletes to compete.

Bulldog girls see season end at regional meet

The Ogden girls golf team were able to take third place on Monday on a wet day at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. The Bulldogs shot a team score of 427 as Remsen St. Mary’s won the meet with a 384 to advance, and Newell-Fonda shot a 407 to move on.

Shaylie Johannsen and Libby Stonehocker tied for ninth after both shot a 106. Emmalee Walker shot a 107, Amelia Schroeder 108, Karissa Walker 112 and Izzy Reutter 115.

Bulldogs push runners, field events through to state

The Ogden Bulldog track teams made the trip just a little southeast on Thursday afternoon for a 1A state qualifying track meet at Madrid. The Bulldogs were able to see athletes push their way through to the 1A state meet for their hard work.

The Ogden girls were able to finish fifth overall out of the 14 teams with 74 team points.

Bulldog Elite Wrestling joins Chartered Wrestling USA

This has been coming for a while. The Bulldog Elite Wrestling group has joined up with Chartered Wrestling USA to aid not only the local grapplers in Ogden, but in other surrounding communities and schools. Ogden wrestling coach Jesse Sundell was happy to finally make this announcement.

“The main thing is that it allows our kids to do some freestyle and greco style of wrestling,” he said. “There are some different clubs in the area but a kid might not be able to travel or afford to go there. This is going to give kids opportunities to continue to wrestle.”

Bulldog wrestlers compete at State, Kolton Munson captures 7th place

It was a busy time for the Ogden wrestling trio on Thursday as they took part in the first day of the 1A state wrestling tournament at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Kolton Munson, at 106 was the lone Bulldog to survive the first day of the tournament as Kale Munson and Avery McCloud were unable to capture a win at the Well.

Ogden boys best Wolves but downed by CR-B

Monday night was the start of postseason play for the Ogden Bulldogs boys basketball team as they welcomed in the IKM-Manning Wolves for a 1A-District 15 quarterfinal contest. Ogden overcame a slow second quarter with a hot third period to take a 72-60 contest to advance on.

The Bulldogs came out on fire in the first quarter and laid in 19 points to take a seven point lead, 19-12. However, the second period was a reversal of fortune as the Bulldogs struggled to find the basket, scoring four points to trail at halftime, 28-23.

Ogden’s McCloud goes from home to State Wrestling

Sometimes, in life, things just have a way of working out. Whether it’s a car starting on a cold winter morning, or you get a phone call saying you’re going to district wrestling after placing out of the top three, life sometimes just smiles upon you. For Ogden senior wrestler Avery McCloud, life had a funny way of working out.

After finishing third at the sectional wrestling meet a couple of weeks ago, McCloud thought his wrestling career for the Bulldogs was over. That was until a fateful Thursday night on the 11th.

Bulldogs send three to state after district meet

It was a successful day for the Ogden Bulldog wrestlers as they sent five to the district meet and saw three end up advancing to the 1A State meet. Kolton Munson, Kale Munson and Avery McCloud will all wrestle at Wells Fargo Arena with hopes of a state title.

Kolton Munson began his day against Alta-Aurelia’s Aden Rieb. He needed just 2:50 to pin and advance to the district championship match at 106. Munson then took on ACGC’s Tegan Slaybaugh in the championship and took a 7-0 decision to win a district championship and earn a spot at the state tournament.

Ogden boys split final two regular season games

The Ogden boys basketball team held their final two regular season games last week on Monday and Tuesday. Monday night was a tough setback on the road against Panorama, 59-45.

“It was like the same scenario from last time we played Panorama,” Ogden coach Scott Church said. “We just didn't shoot the ball well enough to keep pace with them, especially in the 2nd period, and we didn't take care of the ball. We gave them extra possessions and you just can't do that against a good team in Panorama.”

Bulldog girls get win, but fall in regional play

Monday night was the second to last regular season game for the Ogden girls basketball team as they hit the road to take on Panorama. The Bulldogs battled against a tough opponent but fell 59-17.

The Bulldogs trailed 23-7 at the end of the first quarter and 40-8 at halftime. The score sat at 54-12 going to the fourth, and both teams scored five points in the final eight minutes.

Ogden went 7-for-34 and hit two free throws. Katelyn Ellis led the way with eight points as Joelle Consier added two points and three rebounds.
