What’s on tap for Fun Days

Ogden Fun Days gets underway in just a couple of days. The annual festival in Ogden makes it’s return after a one year layoff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Fun Days returns this year in a two day event instead of the usual three. The two day span will be booked full of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Bethel Church offering Art in the Park

With summer comes some extra time for the kids who are out of school. Sometimes finding anything to do can be challenging for them. However, Bethel Church is offering an Art in the Park five week series that started on the 16th, and will go through July 17 at Ogden City Park from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Ellie Wilson, of Ames, and Denise Johnson Nebbe have been working hard to put the program together and get the word out about it.

“We have AWANA kids that don’t have much going on,” Wilson said. “This gives them something to do.”

If you're looking for ideas on how to eat healthy and make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen, this free workshop series is for you! Join Mary Krisco, ISU Extension and Outreach Human Sciences Specialist in Nutrition and Wellness, for a three-part series scheduled once a month this summer at the Woodward Social Center, 218 S. Main St., Woodward, IA 50276

The three one-hour classes will be presented on Thursdays, at 2 p.m.

Taylor spreads ministry through Uganda

Earl Taylor, of rural Ogden recently completed a teaching assignment in Uganda; during the two weeks of teaching, Taylor taught Old Testament survey to about 50 students who were either pastors or elders in a nearby local church. Taylor was accompanied by longtime pastor friend Randy Larson, and Jeff Freud from Wisconsin.

Summer Reading Program Kicks Off in Ogden

Leonard A. Good Community Library hosted the Summer Reading Program Kick-Off “Tails and Tales” trail at the library, Thursday, June 3. Rubicon the alpaca, Snuggles the sheep, Emma the golden retriever, Smidgen the pony, Bow the bunny, ducks and the “No Name Chicken” rounded out the trail.

Patrons were invited to help name the chicken. “Kruse” the previously unnamed hen (and a few of her good friends) provided a dozen eggs for the drawing winner.

Boone County Board of Supervisors report

Topics of interest from the Boone County Board of Supervisors meeting, Wednesday, June 8, 2021.

• Signed a previously negotiated three-year union contract with Boone County Secondary Roads and Landfill employees, effective July 1, 2021.

• Unanimously approved a request of support for Boone County employees to participate in the Adopt-A-Road program. This 100% volunteer effort would include trash removal from ditches on a section of Boone County roadway, with additional cleanup of Boone County Conservation Board properties, such as boat ramps and parking areas.

Pufferbilly Days™ is “Back On Track!” for Summer 2021

The Boone County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the Pufferbilly Days™ festival will return to Boone for its 44th celebration August 6-8, 2021. This year’s theme, “Back on Track!”, reflects the community’s excitement around the return of the festival’s traditional events after the 2020 celebration was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

NADAS coming to Dayton Firemen Fundraiser

The Dayton Fire Department has come up with a way to celebrate the end of quarantine and help them buy equipment in one fell swoop. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 26, as the Des Moines based music group the NADAs are coming to Dayton, Iowa, for an outdoor show that will not soon be forgotten. All profits from the show will go to purchase a high pressure pump for the firefighters.

Walleye - Fair: Try jigging or trolling crawler and leeches from the marina around to the beach, the East Boat Ramp bay and the West Boat Ramp bay. Black Crappie - Fair: troll or cast jigs with live minnows in 5-15 feet of water. Best bite is early morning and just before dark.
