Ogden native Paulsen pens devotional book

Sometimes in life the road we imagine is not the road we actually go down. For Ogden native Courtney Paulsen, her original road in life was different from the one she is currently on. Paulsen saw her athletic dreams come to an end with injuries and also switched colleges and majors. However, in the end, all of those led her to the path she’s on now.

The name Greg Suckow might ring a bell for some folks who have lived in Ogden. The 1988 graduate of Ogden High School, and who had the same German teacher his mother did, might be more well known as his alter-ego. For the last 11 years, Suckow has put on a wig, a black and gold jumpsuit and might be better known as Hawkeye Elvis.

Hawkeye Elvis' origin story was a simple one which comes in two parts.

Ogden High School sends off senior class with graduation

It was the series finale for the 2021 senior class on Sunday afternoon at the Ogden High School gymnasium. Fifty-seven OHS students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas and celebrate their graduation from high school.

The event began with the OHS band playing a selection of songs for the prelude until the seniors entered the gymnasium. The packed gym was led with the Pledge of Allegiance by Justus Rude, the class vice president. After the national anthem, class president Lennon Schriever spoke which led into a performance from the choir.

Amber Braniff Receives the Fareway Family Scholarship

Amber Braniff, a graduate of Ogden High School, Ogden, Iowa, has been awarded the Fareway Family Scholarship through the Iowa Grocers Education Foundation for the 2021-2022 academic year. Braniff was chosen for the $2,000 scholarship from an applicant pool of 389 students.

Walleye - Good: Try jigging or trolling minnows from the marina around to the beach, the East Boat Ramp bay and the West Boat Ramp bay. Black Crappie - Fair: The crappie spawn has started. Catch crappies beginning to move shallow with live minnows under a float fished near rock and wood.

Boone District Farm Ponds

Largemouth Bass - Good: Cast slowly retrieved spinnerbaits, crankbaits and soft plastics. Catch bluegills and crappies on live bait under bobbers or slowly retrieve jigs with small twister tails or swimbaits.

Fun Days to return under a two day format

As with most yearly traditions, Ogden Fun Days weren’t all that fun last year. In fact, the annual Ogden celebration was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, 2021 is a new year and as life begins to get back to normal, the traditions follow. Ogden Fun Days return in late June this year, but will only be a two day event instead of the usual three. Co-chair Andrew Pierce explained some of the decisions regarding this year's events and last year’s.

Memorial Day Service is back

The OHS students in Iowa: Then and Now are hosting a Memorial Day Service. This is the culmination of their semester long course. They've discovered different sites around Iowa, studied famous people, and researched local history of Boone County and Ogden. Most recently, they've explored the stories of some of the people buried in our cemetery. Students were lucky enough to go on a field trip to Des Moines to visit the Iowa Hall of Pride, State Historical Society Museum of Iowa, and the Iowa Gold Star Museum.

Ogden Kids Club provides a safe and convenient environment

Having a place where kids can gather before school, after school and having a place during the summer can be vital for families. Parents knowing their kids are able to be around other children while picking up educational value and life skills. The Kids Club in Ogden is able to help children grow in those areas in a positive way.

The Ogden Kids Club, ran by YSS, has been going strong for around seven years or so, according to Lexy Peterson who is the site supervisor for Ogden.
