DMACC Announces Partnership With Amazon Career Choice Program

A partnership between DMACC and Amazon is empowering Amazon employees to earn a high school equivalency diploma; earn an Associate degree, diploma or certificate from DMACC; or strengthen English skills or upgrade their current skills.

In the Amazon Career Choice at DMACC program, Amazon will pay tuition, fees and for books via a voucher for all qualified Amazon associates as long as they remain an Amazon associate.

Packing meals for a good cause

On a beautiful Saturday in February volunteers from along the Highway 30 corridor came together at the Leonard Good Community Center in Ogden, Iowa, to help feed the world. The Community United Methodist Church Mission Team coordinated the event and invited the Lincoln Highway United Methodist Church Circuit to participate in this Midwest Missions Event.

There were over 135 participants in all, including 58 attendees who call Ogden home. Eight other churches along the section of Lincoln Highway between Boone and Carroll also came and participated.

Adopted Resolution 22-07 authorizing Katie Healy, Conservation Board Director, to execute contracts for 2022 construction of Division 1A of the trail connecting Swede Point Park to the High Trestle Trail west of Madrid.

Approved signing a one-year agreement with Boone Area Humane Society to provide animal control services in rural Boone County for the period July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 in the amount of $1,200 per month. This is a $200 increase over the current agreement, in place since 2018.

Pufferbilly Days™ announces 2022 Grand Marshal

The Pufferbilly Days™ Steering Committee and the Boone County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the naming of the 2022 Pufferbilly Days™ festival grand marshal, John Dawkins.

Dawkins, a Boone resident, retired from a career working for the Union Pacific Railroad (formerly the Chicago and North Western). He has been involved in the Boone community long before retirement, including chairing the Pufferbilly Days™ spike driving contest and model railroad swap meet for several years.

Terrace Hill to Re-Open for Tours on March 1, 2022

Terrace Hill, Iowa Governor’s Residence and National Historic Landmark, will open for the tour season on March 1, 2022. Guided tours are offered Tuesdays through Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. During the guided tour, guests will see the Carriage House, the first and second floors of the residence, and in the late spring and summer, the historic gardens.

Yesterday, we saw great participation from our grassroots membership, as board members, county leaders, cattle producers from all sectors and students showed their loyalty and commitment to Iowa’s cattle industry by attending Cattlemen at the Capitol.
