Over one hundred 4-H members and adult volunteers were honored for their achievements at the Boone County 4-H Awards Day held Sunday, November 14 at the Community Building on the Boone County Fairgrounds. Awards were presented to recognize youth for growth and achievement in project areas, for outstanding overall 4-H participation, and for communication, civic engagement and leadership activities.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to stay vigilant by paying extra attention to traffic signs and report any suspicious activity. Recently the Boone County Roads Department have made complaints that there has been tampering with stop signs and road signs in what appears to be a deliberate attempt to cause a vehicle accident to occur.

At an intersection on Quill Rd, south of Boone, a stop sign was removed and replaced with a different yellow sign. Other signs leading up to this same intersection were also removed/altered.

It’s hard to miss Josie Hildreth when attending events at Ogden High School so it is no surprise she is our November student of the month. She is involved in a number of different activities that show her dedication and drive. Her presence is felt throughout the music department as a member of Show Choir, Mixed Choir, Chamber Choir, Musical Theater, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. She has served on the leadership team for marching band as drum major, woodwind captain, section leader, and uniform captain.

A representative of Walters Sanitary Service in Boone requested the County to reconsider closing the landfill all day on December 24, Christmas Eve. In years past the landfill has remained open until 11:00 a.m.

Like other area haulers, Walters must regularly serve large accounts such as Boone County Hospital, Woodward State School and Eastern Star Home, and feel it is a hardship to hold this waste until Monday, December 27. The supervisors pledged to research and consider what potential accommodations might be available.
