Iowa Department of Revenue Announces 2022 Interest Rates, Deductions, Income Tax Brackets

The Iowa Department of Revenue has finalized individual income tax brackets and individual income tax standard deduction amounts for the 2022 tax year (applicable for taxes due in 2023) and the 2022 interest rate, which the agency charges for overdue payments.

Interest Rates

Starting January 1, 2022, the interest rate for taxpayers with overdue payments will be:

* 5.0% annually

* 0.4% monthly

* 0.013699% daily

Groundbreaking for Ogden’s Fareway sees community turnout, passion for town

Two years ago, an Ogden landmark was lost as Clark’s Food Mart sadly burned to the ground, leaving a vacancy on the corner of 302 E Walnut Street. However, through that two year span, businesses have started to come back to the community, and through that revitalization of downtown, it led to Fareway to make the decision to build a new grocery store where Clark’s stood for decades.

Students reflect on Top Dog inductions

Students in Iowa: Then and Now were delighted to host the 2020 and 2021 Top Dogs during Homecoming this fall. During the Pep Assembly, students were able to share a brief biography about each Top Dog and award them individually. This was especially meaningful to sophomore student Matthew Samuelson who reflected: “The best part was getting to know the Kieffer family. I think hearing about their dad really hit home, and they were appreciative of the award.”

Bluff Creek Wranglers replace trees at Pilot Mound Cemetery

The Bluff Creek Wranglers is a group of 4th-12th graders seeking to make the best better in their community through partnerships with caring adults. The small but mighty club that meets in Pilot Mound the first Sunday of the month has performed numerous civic engagement projects. The biggest undertaking this year was the Pilot Mound Cemetery Project that was funded by a Pioneer Seed Grant and the Bob North Family.

Karin Derry named new Chair of DMACC’s paralegal program

Karin Derry of Johnston has been selected as the new Chair of the DMACC Paralegal Program that’s houses at the Urban Campus.

“Karin comes to DMACC with a very diverse and experienced background,” said DMACC Provost Dr. Anne Howsare Boyens. “She is the type of person we need to lead our Paralegal program through the changes occurring within the legal community.”

Derry has Human Resources Management experience, working at Lutheran Social Service of Iowa, Easter Seals of Iowa and Broadlawns Medical Center.

Living History Farms receives $193K federal grant

Living History Farms has received a $193,402 Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan (SHARP) grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The funds will expand the interactive museum’s exploration of Ioway culture, the immigrant experience in Iowa, and African-American history in Iowa.

Ogden native begins job with the IHSAA

Sometimes things just have a way of working out. An ideal job may open up a few months after you begin another. For Ogden’s Whitney Schlicht, life worked out that way as she recently started a job with the Iowa High School Athletic Association a couple of weeks ago.

Schlicht, who is now an administrative assistant with the IHSAA, said she has been getting used to her new job for the past couple of weeks, and is getting a feel for what’s involved.

“I handle the officials’ registration, making sure they get their rule books and contracts,” she said.
