Trueblood runs for Ogden mayor after 11 years away

The name Mark Trueblood might sound familiar to longtime Ogden residents. Trueblood had been involved with the city government for 18 years through the 1990s and early 2000s. As his retirement draws near, Trueblood is once again throwing his name in the hat for Ogden city government as he runs unopposed for mayor.

“I feel it’s just a good way to give back,” Trueblood said. “I really enjoyed it and with retirement coming up, I thought I’d give it a go.”

I am seeking re-election to the Ogden City Council because as it is in most communities there is always things that need to be done. The city has embarked on and aggressive tax abatement program never before done in Ogden to spark new growth in business and residential housing. As a small community in central Iowa we don't have all of the box store type businesses that larger communities are accustomed to having. We have to find our own niche that will draw people into our community. We are working with Fareway right now and will be constructing and 8,000 sq.

Why am I seeking re-election?

During my terms on the city council we have fully implemented or are diligently working on projects we feel will bring much needed improvements to our community. Right now Ogden's main street is experiencing a nice spurt of growth and vibrance, with the news about a new Fareway store to replace our lost grocery store, businesses that have remained anchors for our main street and some new shops and services added. I want to continue to serve on the council to see those things and some exciting things on our horizon to completion.

Ogden High School brings back Veterans Day Program

At OHS, we are hosting a Veterans Day Program again this year. Juniors have been preparing by interviewing veterans and writing up feature articles and creating posters to honor their veterans. They are learning about the meaning of Veterans Day, and hearing stories of sacrifices the veterans have made to keep us free and safe in our country. Students have a new appreciation once this project is completed.

Food Bank of Iowa joins partnership for a Healthier America’s Healthy Hunger Relief initiative

Food Bank of Iowa has joined the Partnership for a Healthier America’s (PHA) Healthy Hunger Relief initiative to further uplift the health and well-being of Iowans in its 55-county service area. Food Bank of Iowa will work with PHA, the national nonprofit organization formed in conjunction with former First Lady Michelle Obama, to address hunger, malnutrition and chronic disease by increasing the supply of more healthful food options.

Families who will have students in college for the 2022-2023 school year can take the first step in the financial aid process now.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, for 2022-2023 became available on Oct. 1. Students and their parents should fill it out early to ensure the best consideration for available college funding, which may be limited. For incoming freshmen, submitting early may also mean more opportunity to compare financial aid offers from multiple institutions before the final decision must be made.

Boone County Landfill exploring options with city of Ames

There has been a long standing agreement between Boone County and the City of Ames regarding the Boone County Landfill. The landfill, which services not only Boone County but also the majority of Greene County and part of Calhoun County, has been getting overflow from Ames for the past 46 years. Recently, the Boone County Board of Supervisors have been in talks with Ames and Story County Waste Management about ending the long standing agreement between the two.
